This barbecued beef brisket is a great source of high-quality protein, which helps your body build and repair muscles. Because the recipe uses a slow cooker, the meat becomes very tender without needing extra oil or frying, making it a lighter way to enjoy a hearty meal. The dry rub also includes spices like garlic and chili powder, which add plenty of flavor and provide natural antioxidants. Additionally, by using the "first cut" of the brisket, you are choosing a leaner portion of the beef, which is a smart way to manage fat intake while still getting essential vitamins like B12 and zinc.

Ingredients

Dry Rub & Meat:

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 fresh beef brisket (2-1/2 pounds), trimmed
  • Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons Liquid Smoke (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard

  • Instructions

    1. Prepare the Brisket: In a small bowl, combine the first six ingredients (salt, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, celery seed, and pepper). Rub this mixture over the brisket.
    2. Slow Cook: Place the brisket in a slow cooker.
    3. Mix the Sauce: In a large bowl, combine the sauce ingredients. Pour half over the brisket; set the remaining sauce aside.
    4. Cook: Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until meat is tender.
    5. Serve: Serve with the reserved sauce.

    Yield: 8 servings

Note: This is a fresh beef brisket, not corned beef. The meat comes from the first cut of the brisket.
