While these hoagies are a delicious comfort food, they also offer some solid nutritional benefits. The main ingredient, sirloin tip roast, is a great source of high-quality protein, which helps your body build muscle and stay strong. It also provides essential minerals like iron, which gives you energy, and zinc, which supports your immune system. Additionally, because the recipe uses a slow cooker, the meat becomes very tender without needing to add extra fats or oils during the cooking process. If you want to make it even healthier, you can use whole-grain buns for extra fiber or serve it with a side of fresh vegetables!

Ingredients

  • 1 boneless sirloin tip roast (about 4 pounds), halved
  • 2 envelopes Italian salad dressing mix
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 jar (16 ounces) mild pepper rings, undrained
  • 18 hoagie buns, split

  • Instructions

    1. Prepare the Roast: Place the halved roast in a 5-qt. slow cooker.
    2. Combine and Pour: Combine the Italian salad dressing mix and water; pour the mixture over the roast.
    3. Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender.
    4. Shred the Meat: Remove the meat from the slow cooker; shred with a fork and return the shredded meat to the slow cooker.
    5. Add Peppers: Add the mild pepper rings (with their liquid) to the pot and heat through.
    6. Serve: Spoon 1/2 cup of the meat mixture onto each split hoagie bun.
